I know I'm annoying but I just want give you one more reason to vote democrat this year.   The democratic party espouses Christian values more than people give them credit for.    

WIC, welfare, and unemployment are, as you know, programs that help the poor.  To my knowledge, they were initiated and continue to be supported largely by democrats.  What's more, you, me, Ralphy, the kids have all benefitted from them. Republicans are always pushing to cut these types of programs because they are paid for by taxes. (Again, republicans tend to represent the very wealthy who won't have a need to tap into these programs.)  As recently as a year ago, Republicans (including McCain) vetoed a proposal that would have provided medical coverage to uninsured children that don't qualify for medicaid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCHIP). ; While I agree that these government programs are imperfect and should be reworked in order to stop abuse of the system,  I, for one, am very grateful they were in place when we were growing up.  It seems somewhat dramatic to say it like this, but we would have literally gone hungry but for these programs.  That or we would have been a huge burden on mom's sisters.

Initiating well managed programs -- emphasis on well managed -- is not unamerican or socialist.  These are Christian values put into action.  They key is to get smart people to administer them.
